     When children are young we teach them many basic things that help their development; one of the fundamentals is literacy. We read to them, showing children the importance of becoming a knowledgeable member of society. Nowadays many parents are forgetting the importance of another type of literacy, financial literacy.

Sun Center FCU offers a special type of travel club merchant account for children under the age of 13 called Sunshine Savings Account.  You may ask why is it important for someone under the age of 13 to know the importance of a savings account. Sun Center FCU knows that saving is not always viewed as the ‘fun’ thing to do when children receive their birthday money or allowance. We are trying to change that perspective with the Sunshine Savings Account. When any child comes in to open an account they receive their very own Sun Center FCU piggy bank, which receives mail! We send a quarterly feeding notice and a birthday card once a year. When a deposit of $10.00 or more is made into the account the child will receive a prize out of the Sun Center FCU treasure chest.
