A credit union is a member-owned financial cooperative, democratically controlled by its members, providing credit at competitive rates, and generally higher dividends on savings accounts.

Credit unions do not have customers they have members. When you’re a member of a credit union you own a piece of the credit union and have voting rights. There are no investors or stockholders like a bank, but a volunteer board. All profits go back into the credit union in ways to benefit members.

Credit unions exist to help people, not make a profit. The goal is to serve all of members well, including those of modest means – every member counts. The same people-first philosophy causes credit unions and their employees to get involved in community charitable activities and worthwhile cause.

Sun Center Federal Credit Union has been around since 1976! In 1976 with the investment of a very small group of FAA Employees the Cleveland Center FAA Federal Credit Union opened its doors. Serving only FAA members at the time. The Oberlin Branch was the only Sun Center branch till 1994.

In the 1980s we expanded our field of membership to include select employee groups of local businesses. These select groups would come to the FAA grounds to use the credit union.

In 1994 our second branch opened in Wellington to better serve our members. LaGrange was opened and built in 1999. In 2004 the National Credit Union Association approved Cleveland Center FCU to become a community chartered credit union, allowing us to open our doors to the public.

Soon after the change we merged with the Greenline FCU, a credit union originating from St. Peter’s Church in North Ridgeville. We acquired our fifth, and final branch in South Amherst in 2006.

Our name officially became Sun Center Federal Credit Union in 2006. “We’re not just a bank, we help change people’s lives,” Brenda Hammond, CEO and employee of SCFCU for over 32 years.

Top 3 Accomplishments of Sun Center

Expanding our field of membership

LaGrange Branch, which was a “Bare Piece of Land”

Being able to donate to the community, Veterans Memorials, Lifetime Stadium Sponsorship, and Libraries
